Recipe data entry tutorial

This tutorial is designed to lead new users through the process of creating a cookbook, a chapter and a recipe in Living Cookbook. By following these steps carefully you will become familiar with the major features of the recipe interface.

Click on the hyperlinks next to the arrows to expand each section or click the show all link at the top right of this page.

  1. Select the Recipe Navigator tab.
  2. How?

  3. Create a cookbook.
    1. On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Cookbook.
    2. Type the My Cookbook in the Cookbook Name box.
    3. Click OK.
  4. Create a cookbook chapter.

    1. On the Action menu, point to New, point to Folder, and then click Chapter
    2. Type the My Chapter in the Chapter Name box.
    3. In the Cookbook box, select My Cookbook.
    4. Under Parent Chapter, click Top level chapter.
    5. Click OK.
  5. Open the new recipe dialog.
    1. On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Recipe.
  6. Enter the recipe properties.
    1. Click the Recipe tab.
    2. Type the Tarragon Cream Sauce in the Recipe Name box.
    3. Click the Cookbook Chapter ellipsis button and select My Chapter from the Select Chapter dialog.
    4. Type the 5 in the Preparation Time box.
    5. Type the 10 in the Cooking Time box.
    6. Type the 15 in the Ready In box.
    7. Type the 4 in the Servings box.
    8. Type the 1 cup in the Yield box.
    9. Click the Recipe Type ellipsis button and select Sauce in the Recipe Type dialog.
  7. Enter the recipe ingredients.
    1. Click the Ingredients tab.
    2. Type 2 in the Quantity column.
    3. Type Tbs in the Unit column.
    4. Type butter in the Ingredient column.
    5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 with the following ingredients.
    6. 1/2 tsp dried tarragon

      1 large shallot, finely chopped

      1/2 Tbs flour

      1/2 cup cream

      1/2 cup milk

      1 Tbs parsley, finely chopped

  8. Enter the recipe procedure.
    1. Click the Procedure tab.
    2. Type the following in the Procedure box: Melt butter in a small saucepan until butter begins to turn hazelnut brown. Add the tarragon and shallots and sauté until the shallots are tender.
    3. Repeat the step 2 with the following text: Add the wine and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Then stir in the flour; add cream and milk and cook until thickened. Stir in parsley; serve.
  9. Enter the cooking tips.
    1. Click the Tips tab.
    2. Type the following in the tip column: Do not cook the shallots too long. They will give the sauce a bitter taste.
  10. Enter the recipe author information.
    1. Click the Author tab.
    2. Type Omaha Steaks in the Source box.
    3. Type www.omahasteaks.com in the Web Page box.
  11. Click OK.
